How to choose which items show in the notification area. If the icon still appears after turning off all messages, you'll need to change the Action Center icon behaviors in the Notification Area Icons to "Only show notifications." If you no longer want this icon to appear, click all the "Turn off messages about. If any actions are available, the Action Center icon appears in the Windows Notification Area. In Windows 7, the Action Center icon may also look like a white flag. 
When visible, the Action Center icon should resemble the icon shown to the right.
